Team Impact Wrestling Club Participation in Competition Guidelines

Being a member of this club does not entitle anyone to select competitive events for participation. The coaching staff will select an event or events for athletes to participate. Selection will be based upon ensuring a safe and positive experience. Athlete need to prove competence in practices, and smaller more minor events before they can participate in major events. We do not want to send athletes to events where they cannot win matches.

“Beginners” are strongly encouraged to practice for one year prior to attending a competitive event.

Competition Philosophy: Proper prior preparation prevents poor performance. Wrestling bouts are won before the tournaments, in the practice room. Proper preparation is an integral part of an optimal performance. In our training preparations we plan for success. Practices are scheduled year round with appropriate breaks in the season for adequate recuperation and rejuvenation. We advocate participating in tournaments only upon optimal preparation. We practice to compete, and do not compete to practice. Regular attendance in Team Impact practices is a vital requirement for successful outcomes in competitions. We do not believe in competing more often than we train. Team Impact athletes planning on participating in a practice or competition with another club must inform a Team Impact coach prior to doing so.

Competition Criteria: Participation in competitions will be based upon the recommendation of the coaching staff in weeks prior to events. Recommendation is based upon ensuring a safe and positive experience. Athletes will participate in competition upon a coach’s recommendation. We strongly discourage late club registration solely for the purpose of competing in a major competition (i.e. Provincial Championships). All members should be active in club practices for at least one month before entering in a competition.

Please read and understand the Team Impact Wrestling Club Rules, Policies and Procedures.

Guideline Procedure for Competition Participation:

  1. Participants must be paid members in good standing with the club
  1. Athletes and/ or coaches are to confirm intention to participate no later than one full week before the event. For events that require hotel reservations confirmation is required ASAP, no later than one month before the event.

  1. Registration to events will be finalized with a payment for the event and an official weigh-in and skin check conducted by a Team Impact coach, prior to the event. It will be the responsibility of the athlete to inquire about the payment and date of the weigh-in.
  1. Athletes who fail to notify a coach and scratch (a no-show at the tournament) their entry will be charged the scratch fee. It is the obligation of the athlete to contact a coach upon canceling. The sooner the notice the better we are at saving the costs in tournament cancellation charges including hotel and van rental cancellation fees.

  1. If you chose to travel on your own to a competition. When you arrive at the event please confirm your attendance with one of the coaches. Also at this time you should check to see that you are in the correct weight class and age group. Upon departing notify a coach.
  1. On overnight trips there will be a curfew set. The times can vary depending on various factors such as travel arrival times, or what time the competition ends etc. The club policy is to be in your room, lights out and asleep by 10 pm. Please bring a portable alarm clock to wake you up.

  1. Wrestlers should focus their attention during matches on taking directions from the corner coach.
  1. Please review the Team Impact Wrestling Club Rules, Policies and Procedures.
