Club History
Team Impact is a not-for-profit-wrestling club. The Team Impact Wrestling Club was formally called the Oshawa Olympic Wrestling Club (OOWC). The OOWC has been developing athletes in the Durham Region since 1973. In the formative years the club was initially called the Durham Regional Wrestling Club. In 1998, the OOWC changed its name to TEAM IMPACT and in 2000 Team Impact amalgamated with the Metro Toronto Wrestling Association. Team Impact now serves the Greater Toronto, as well as, the Durham Region. Team Impact has been consistently placing athletes on the national and provincial podium for over a quarter of a century. Team Impact is committed to providing quality up-to-date instruction in the sport of wrestling. The club objective is not only focused on producing elite athletes, but on cultivating exemplary citizens. We want to pass along good values and life-long skills.
Team Impact is recognized as one of 14 national training centres in Canada. It is the only non-university based recognized National Training Centre. The club is committed to year-round training. The Team Impact Wrestling Club is an affiliated club with the Ontario Amateur Wrestling Association, and the Canadian Amateur Wrestling Association.
Team Impact has provided wrestling training for the following high profile mixed martial arts athletes: Carlos Newton, Wagney Fabiano Santos, Mark Bocek, Leonardo Santos, David Beneteau and Justin Bruckman.
In the last 10 years, Team impact has produced over 20 wrestlers that have attended eight different universities and over 85% of them have earned medals at the Canadian University Wrestling Championships. Between 2000 and 2004, Team Impact has placed in the top 10 in the national senior championships and only two other Ontario teams have place higher than Team Impact at the senior nationals (Brock U. and Guelph U.) during that time. Team Impact is the only non-university based club in Canada to consistently outperform most of the university-based clubs in the 2000’s. Here are some notable results:
