TEAM IMPACT WRESTLING CLUB
Contagious Skin and Other Infectious Diseases Policy
A.K.A. The Ringworm Policy (Revised 28:12:02)
Hiding any contagious skin disease or other infectious diseases in order to participate in any training or competitions is strictly prohibited. Any athlete caught hiding or practicing with any disease of a contagious kind will be fined $50. Ten dollars of this fine can be awarded to anyone who reports someone training on the mats with a contagious disease. It is everyone’s responsibility to help prevent the spread of contagious diseases. Not knowing you have a contagious disease is not a valid reason for being excused from paying the fine. It is your responsibility to know or find out what is and is not infectious. To avoid being fined, athletes are encouraged to make inquiries to a coach or a doctor about all potential infections. Only athletes checked and cleared by a coach will be allowed to practice without paying the $50 penalty.
To be a participant in good standing with the Team Impact Wrestling Club it is your personal responsibility to comply with the following procedures:
I. You must inform the coaching staff the moment that you have a contagious skin disorder, as well as, everyone else that you have come in contact with.
II. If you think that you might have any unusual skin condition or infection (i.e. rash, bad pimple, cold sore, ringworm etc.), have it checked by a coach, a doctor, or a dermatologist immediately. An itching or oozing feeling or a reddened area is usually a sign of an infection.
III. If you have a contiguous skin disease seek immediate treatment and continue the treatment for at least a week after the symptoms have disappeared. Ask your dermatologist or doctor for more medication than s/he plans to prescribe. Some athletes are more susceptible to catching the disease again than others and therefore will need to keep the medication readily available.
IV. Return to practice as soon as the area is dry, flat and flaky. Upon return have a coach inspect to make sure the area is no longer contagious. All dry, flat, flaky and red areas previously infected must be covered with tape throughout the entire practice. Only when the condition has completely disappeared, will you be permitted to train on the mat without having the infected area taped.
V. Proper medical documentation will be required in order to participate in competitions with any form of skin disorder that appears obvious on the body.
VI. Rubbing a thin layer of Lamisal or Nizoral cream directly onto the rash is the preferred method of treatment. It is better not to covering the rash with a band-aid. Try to avoid humid and moist environments that promote sweating. Oral pills should only be used for areas that are difficult for cream application (i.e. under hair or nails or soles of the feet). Be vigilant in your prescribed treatment. If you are unable to seek immediate medical treatment, you can try buying Nizoral shampoo, which is sold over the counter, and follow the directions on the bottle.
VII. Check and examine your skin on a regular basis. Early detection and treatment can prevent further complications and ensure a speedy recovery.
Prevention procedures to avoid contagious skin infections:
Do not come to practice if you know you have any type of infectious disease.
